When someone dies, it is often a time when unfamiliar decisions have to be made by those bereaved, or by friends who have been entrusted to make the funeral arrangements. As Funeral Directors, it is one of our principal duties to provide all necessary information on the choices that are available and advise those responsible for the funeral arrangements of any obligations that are expected of them.

As a death can occur at any time during the day or night, W. Smith & Sons provide a twenty-four hour service every day of the year. Outside normal office hours Trevor, Roger or Michael personally receive all calls and are able to offer advice and guidance on procedures including what is required to Register the death. Should the death be at a private residence or either a nursing or rest home, a doctor will have to confirm death before we can arrange for the removal of the deceased to our chapels of rest, therefore it is advisable to contact ourselves after the doctor has made his visit.

The funeral arrangements are made by means of an informal interview between one of the Mr Smiths and the family or executors of the deceased. Private reception rooms are available at either our Winton or Bransgore Offices or if it is preferred, we will make an appointment to visit out clients in their own homes. W. Smith & Sons can arrange booking for Bournemouth at our Winton Office.

Funerals are arranged in accordance with the specific needs of our clients. We offer a comprehensive range of services and facilities to achieve the funeral that is desired. The main topics which will be discussed and decided upon include:-

• LOCATION OF FUNERAL SERVICE:-
  Whether to be held at the deceased's own Home, Church or Chapel, or at the Cemetery or Crematorium.
  
  
• DAY AND TIME OF FUNERAL:-
  Providing the necessary authorities, Church or Minister can be contacted, this will be arranged at the interview and confirmation given with consideration regarding to travelling times of relatives and friends who wish to attend the funeral.
  
  
• THE LOCATION FROM WHERE THE FUNERAL IS TO COMMENCE:-
  The Hearse for the funeral with its chauffeur and sufficient bearers is part of our essential service, this may go to the residence of the deceased or directly to the church, Cemetery or Crematorium.
